As I have shown in my research racing has been very popular throughout time. In the current day there are many forms of racing, using different types of cars, tracks and locations. For example Rallying (Motorsport.com. 2011) takes cars and drivers into a fast paced trek across an off road surface, whereas Formula 1 is all performed on a highly maintained track. (The Guardian. 2011)
(Dickenson, J. 2001).
Today Rallying is a fairly big sport, although not with as many followers as Formula 1, and can be seen regularly on TV, although mostly on premium channels such as ESPN. (TVGuide. 2011).Formula 1 on the other hand is much more popular and mainstream than rallying and can also be seen on TV in race days on public channels, such as the BBC. Formula 1 is also very popular in the media, not only on TV but especially in national newspapers such as The Guardian. (The Guardian. 2011).
(Top Gear Magazine. 2011).
(Original Film. 2001).
Fast and Furious 6 is the next film in the series to be released in 2013, staring Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel. (Original Film. 2013).
I think because this is the 6th film in the long running series it shows quite an interest in the racing genre.
Media relating to the Apocalypse has also been popular in many forms of media throughout time.
(Hemdale Film. 1984).
The Terminator (1984) showed it as created by a war between intelligent machines and humans, rather than demons and devils. I believe this was a good representation of judgement day brought into the context of the time at which the film was made. Computers were just starting to become more popular and widespread, and seeming to do more and more things. Along with this, people were being replaced in some jobs by machines who could construct parts quicker and cheaper. This film tapped into peoples fear that machines would become too intelligent and take over, causing Judgement Day.
(Touchstone Pictures. 1998).
(Interplay Entertainment. 1997).
A interpretation of The Apocalypse is in the Fallout (1997) game series. This takes place in a post apocalyptic future after a nuclear war.
(EMI Gold. 2009).
I found a very interesting album called Laughing On Judgement Day by Thunder (2009). I found the name of the record quite interesting as it catches your eye very well and gives you an interest for what the songs on the album are like. However I was most interested by the artwork for the album. It has a very nice abstract look to it, and kind of reminds me of the Monty Python stylized titles some of their films had.
In the past the Apocalypse has been featured in a variety of media in the past, and the trend has continued in both the present and horizon.
Raptures Delight.
(Fox Network. 2011).
(Fox Network. 2011).
American Dad, a popular American cartoon, recently did an episode on the Apocalypse occurring through religious means. (Fox Network. 2011. Raptures Delight.)
(Brandywine Productions. 2012).
Looking at Judgement Day or the Apocalypse in films due to come out I found an interesting example. Prometheus (2012) (IMDB. 2011. Coming Soon.) is where a team of explorers find a secret to the origin of mankind and leaves them in a "terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.".
(Agostini, D. 2011).
There is also lots of media attention on the Apocalypse which people believe the Mayan's predicted would occur in 2012. I found this article from ABC News which claims a recent discovery proves that the Mayan's thought the Apocalypse will occur in 2012. (Francis, E. 2011).
(THQ. 2012. Metro: Last Light.)
Metro: Last Light (2012) is a video game set in a post Apocalyptic Russia and forces the player to fight for their survival journeying through the ruined cities. (THQ. 2011. Metro: Last Light).
As I've shown there has been a lot of media surrounding the apocalypse and post apocalyptic worlds in a variety of sources. From the research I have gathered and examined I believe that a post apocalyptic world will prove an interesting IP for many people and would be quite popular.
I believe that by combining racing and the apocalypse, an IP of "Post Apocalyptic Racing" would prove popular with a large audience. This idea has proved marketable by the research I have done and the trends I have shown.
